International Conference “Past Worlds across Time and Space” – cancelled 6.- 8. April 2020 u.a. im BASA-Museum

Due to the current situation regarding the corona virus the conference is cancelled. As soon as we can foresee at what time it can be held safely for everyone, we will set up a new schedule.

The Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) “Past Worlds and Modern Questions” led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Becher and Prof. Dr. Karoline Noack invites you to the international conference “Past Worlds across Time and Space - Grasping the Transcendence of Cultural Heritage and Communication“. The conference aims to overcome the canonical timeline anchored in Eurocentric history, which affects in particular two areas of investigation: On the one hand, the area of museum studies, which has been transformed in recent decades by new methods of thinking about and doing museum work; on the other hand, concepts of understanding communication as a historical process of transfer which took place in the course of the so-called premodern age. Part of the event is a roundtable in the BASA Museum on occasion of the 2nd Day of Provenance Research in Germany on April 8 entitled “Insights into Provenance Research in Ethnographic Collections”.
